Historical Plaque Program
The historical plaque program, launched in February 2012, is sponsored by the Stratford-Perth County Branch of the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario. It helps citizens and tourists connect with the history of the community by identifying with a plaque residential, commercial and other properties built pre-World War II. The program has been well received by residents and visitors.
Our Events and Initiatives
In 2025, the branch executive added three local properties to our Watchlist — a list of sites at potential risk. The first is the Stratford Normal School, the best-preserved of Ontario’s four original teachers’ colleges. The second is the Queen’s Inn, which is currently undergoing a major refit. The third is a historic industrial site in St. Marys connected to the town’s quarrying past and marked by six striking concrete pillars. President Dan Schneider wrote to the St. Marys Independent about the importance of preserving the site and later attended a Town Council meeting where it was formally considered. The future of the pillars site has not yet been decided.
