The yellow brick house at 90 Youngs Street was built in September of 1915 by Arthur Sullivan.
Arthur was born in Stratford on September 12, 1891(according to the death certificate). On the family headstone at Avondale Cemetery, it lists his birth year as 1888, to father Martin F. Sullivan(1854-1896) and mother Catherine C. Finucane (April 1861- July 1938). In the 1891 Census, his family owned and ran the Dominion House on the corner of Downie and Guelph Street in Stratford. After Martin's passing, Catherine continued to run the hotel until 1903 when she sold it to Dennis Hurley. Arthur was a real estate agent. He never lived in the house. His first tenant to live there was Oliver Sliverster Cromwell and his family.
Oliver was born on May 4, 1892 in Peel Township, Wellington County to father William Major and mother Mary Elizabeth Scott. Willial was born on June 10, 1856 and Mary was born on Dedcember 19, 1862, both in Peel Township, Wellington County. Well, both his parents were born in Ontario, his grandfather was born on March 10, 1818, Weymouth Bridge, Digby, Nova Scoti. They married in Listowel on Juy 14, 1881. William and Mary had 11 children.
Oliver moved to Stratford by 1911, showing in the Census. He is listed as a butcher at the White Packing Company. He is listed as living at 169 Youngs Street, Stratford with his parents. He wa still living with his parents when he wed Edna Edwins Williams in Oxford County on January 14.
Edna was born in Woodstock on July 28, 1897. Their son, William was born on October 17,1914 in Woodstock. In the assessment records, they were renting the house at 90 Youngs Street by September 15, 1915. His profession is listed as driver.
The famil moved to Michigan, USA by 1917, possibly to live closer to older brother James. Their daughter Audrey was born August 20, 1917 in Michigan. Ruth E. was born October 21, 1919 in Hamtramck, Michigan, their last child. In the 1921 Census, the family had moved back to Ontario, living at 187 Park Row, Woodstock. Olivier was listed as a chauffeur.
In the Untied States census of 1930, Oliver, Edna and children are living at 2940 Chestnut Street, Detroit, Michigan. His race is listed as negro(black). Edna died on October 10, 1952 and OLiver died om March 27, 1982 in Wayne, Michigan.
